If you have been anywhere in the world in the last few years you have most likely heard about GMO foods.  There is a lot of opposition to them,  but why?  It reminds me of the high fructose corn syrup commercials, when they are questioned about it “you know what they say don’t you!?” “what?”… “uh…” like the other person is an idiot?  Did you happen to see that the commercials were put on by the corn refiners association?  They don’t have any “interest” in selling more! Same deal with GMO, they want it to be a shroud of mystery, they don’t want us to think about it why?  Because they have a vested interest in selling you more GMO corn.

So when you start to look into this subject there are some road blocks.  What I mean is the testing that has been done has only been done on animals, well technically they are “testing” us because no one knows the true life long affects of GMO products.  Here’s what they have figured out in the animals, GMO products cause:

  • Organ Failure
  • Infertility/Sterility
  • Miscarriages
  • Low Birth Weight
  • Destruction of Bees & Butterflies
  • Death

The problem is that there are no labeling requirements for GMO products.  We just discovered some corn meal in our house, we are pretty sure it’s GMO and now it’s going in the trash.  Hubby doesn’t want to feed it to the chickens (duh, do we want dead chickens or modified eggs?) when I asked what he was going to do with it, he said we could burn it like the Haitians!  I chucked, but did you hear this?  After the devastating earthquake in Haiti, Monsanto (the GMO makers) sent GMO seeds to Haiti, do you know these people are smarter than us?  They burned the junk!  Read the article http://www.naturalnews.com/029222_GMOs_Haiti.html

What foods should you and your family avoid?  That is hard, right now Monsanto is trying to genetically modify everything under the sun.  I told Hubby that I want to pay special attention to our heirloom seeds this year, that way we can start saving those seeds and weed out the rest.  Right now the list is short, but these foods are found in almost every processed food.  Current GMO foods:

  • Corn
  • Soybeans (yes even tofu and soy milk, and soy lecithin)
  • Canola
  • Cottonseed
  • Sugar Beets
  • Hawaiian Papaya
  • Small amounts of Zucchini and Yellow Squash
  • Alfalfa for animal feed

Avoiding these foods are key number one, but how do you do it?  How can you possibly know everything that contains these foods because they are hidden in plain sight?  I found the most amazing site to download FREE (everyone knows how much I like free by now right?) brochures like “Non- GMO shopping guide,” “Doctors’ health warning,” and “The Non-GMO shopping guide brochure” click here for the instant access to the free printable guides and PLEASE share them with friends and family!

Alex Jones does a great 15 minute video about not just GMO foods but poisoned foods in general:

And a movie (10 parts, the attached is 1 of 10 please go to youtube to watch the other 9 videos) that I just started watching and have not yet finished:

Bottom line? Get this junk out of your mouth, out of your house and possibly burn it, I really think the Haitians are on to something there!

I have a Morton’s Neuroma on my foot which is basically fibrous tissue that grows around nerve cells in your feet.  “They say” it’s caused by poor shoes, but I’m the QUEEN of comfortable shoes, so I don’t get how I got it.  At any rate, I have one, it’s on my left foot and it causes so much pain and often makes me limp, especially after resting for a period of time.  Mornings first thing out of bed and getting out of the car at work after my hour commute are the two most painful times.  Basically the Orthopedic Surgeon I work for diagnosed me, gave me a cortisone injection and that helped.  The cortisone is supposed to reduce the inflammation, it helped! When I came back a few weeks later and was in pain again, he gave me an odd answer, well odd for a doctor… but maybe because I work with him?  He said that they only do cortisone injections every 6 weeks because basically “we” aren’t sure what problems can arise by having it more frequently.  My first thought was, oh great! What did I have him inject into me!?  And if “they” aren’t sure what kinds of problems there could be from multiple shots “within 6 months” then how can “they” assure me that those same unknown things wouldn’t happen from correct treatment?  This is why I don’t subscribe to western medicine!  Still my problem persists, so I went to an herb group I belong to and posed the question for help with what I originally thought was a stress fracture.  I was given some suggestions for herbs to use and make a liniment (basically herbs soaked in alcohol, the alcohol is rubbed on the skin and quickly absorbed).  I instead soaked the herbs in oil and made a salve.

Comfrey is my favorite healing herb!  I plan on going to get some roots from a friends plant and planting it at our house.  This stuff is like gold in our house.  The second herb is St Johns Wart which not only can help with depression but is also an anti-inflammatory and helps muscle spasms, cramps and tension.  The third plant I used was yarrow.  Yarrow is crazy and has tons of things it helps with, it helps stop bleeding, it can be chewed for a tooth ache until you can get to the dentist, bruises and pain, inflammation…

So I put these herbs (which we harvested ourselves, thank you very much 🙂 ) and I put them my glass pan and added oil to cover.  I put the stove on low and let it sit for a while.  Then I forgot about it, LOL.  I’m good at forgetting little projects I start.  So they sat in the pan with the herbs for a few days then I strained off the herbs and again the jar of oil sat another week probably.  Then my foot really started bothering me, so last weekend I made salve.  I melted my beeswax and added the oil then put it all in baby food jars.  I started applying the salve to my foot, top and bottom where it hurt.  I leave my jar of salve on my night stand and try to remember to put it on at night and in the morning.  I was consistent for two days and I noticed a CONSIDERABLE difference in my foot pain.  I applied this morning and I have no foot pain!  This stuff really works.  I have yet to use it on anything else inflamed but my foot is super happy!

Our new toy we got last night.  Juicing has been such a powerful thing for us.  We both notice such a difference in how we feel and I mentioned before I had just blurted it out to our neighbor one night.  Yesterday I went out to cut some sage for dinner and our neighbor was outside having a smoke.  She said that she wants to start juicing and proposed to us that if we buy the produce and juice it for her, not only will she pay for her produce but give us extra for our time, and even said she wanted to buy chicken eggs from us! This is a true God-send because Hubby is having a really hard time finding work.  She is just tired of being sick and tired, as were we!  We decided to upgrade our juicer!  It was a bit of money to spend, and we are not rich by any stretch of the imagination.  But we decided it was an investment in ourselves, and now that we have our neighbor on board… it’s really an investment in the community.

We bought a Hurom Slow Juicer, now I’m still a cheap girl and I LOVE a deal.  Hubby, his motto in life is “A closed mouth doesn’t get fed.”  He is never afraid to ask for a discount or a break on anything.  Back to the juicer, we were looking around at good options, watched many youtube videos and researched options.  I checked on craigslist and found a Hurom slow juicer that was only used a few times and the girl didn’t want it anymore.  She actually lived in a studio apartment and it was kind of big for her little place.  She had only had it for a bit and was selling it, new it’s $360 she had it advertised for $280.  Yesterday evening we drove into Portland and checked it out, the thing was amazing!  You hardly have to use the plunger at all, in fact the thing sucks down produce, and its whisper quiet!  Hubby handed the girl $260 and she accepted, so we basically bought a brand new juicer for $100 less than it costs in the store.  We were tickled!  We hurried home to try that baby out.  It not only produced more juice with less produce, but the juice was darker and it was more pungent, you could tell it had more in it.  The only “beef” with it is that it does produce a bit of pulp in the juice, which we remedied by straining with a fine mesh strainer, and that you have to cut down stringy veggies (think celery, and asparagus) or hard roots (carrots and beets).  It also does wheatgrass, it does leafy green veggies very well and you can also make nut milks and coconut milk with it, as well as banana ice cream.  Our JuiceMan II is great, but it sounded like a jet plane was taking off in our kitchen every morning, and if the pulp got stuck on the mesh strainer then the thing would rattle around and it felt like it was taking off! LOL  I guess we are “real” juicers now? We certainly feel blessed that is for sure!  The following video was one that really made me sure we wanted this machine… enjoy! HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

How’d you like today’s title? Sound appealing? Yeah…it’s not to me either, but there is a health benefit to them.  Several years ago Hubby and I watched a movie called A Beautiful Truth.  It is one of the movies that blasts the cancer epidemic wide open and it’s done by a teenager!  I had heard of vitamin B-17 before for cancer treatment, even Rife treatment, but the Gerson therapy that was discussed in this movie, I had never heard of.

Dr Max Gerson was a brilliant man, and of course as in most amazing discoveries for diseases (especially those that don’t cost much) his ideas were swept under the rug and he was dubbed a “quack” by most doctors and organizations.  He suggested that a diet that is mostly plant-based along with coffee enema could cure diseases.  This suggestion to the normal medical community is outlandish and crazy, but the problem with Dr Gerson’s therapy is the fact that you can’t make money on fruit and vegetable juices and coffee enema.  What would happen if cancer was cured?  We wouldn’t be asked for money at the grocery store check out, there would be no more “race for the cure’s,” or no more cancer society.  The doctor who’s only job is “treating” cancer would no longer be needed, and what about the multi millions of dollars spent on the new cancer centers around the country?  The problem is, they don’t really WANT to cure cancer, why would they?  Pharmaceutical companies would be out millions of dollars that people pay out for the cancer drugs, with the radiation, the actual treatments are more likely to kill a person than the cancer themselves.

I’m not callous.  I have great sadness for people dealing with cancer.  I, myself, have been changed by cancer.  My grandma died when I was 13 due to complications from her ovarian cancer.  I currently have PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome) and you don’t think it scares me to death that my Grandma had ovarian cancer!?  My “second mom” died last year from complications from her cancer.  She was though to have asthma most of my growing up period, then turned out it was actually cancer.  She and my mom were best friends and both single mom’s.  Caren lived up the street from us and took care of foster kids, so she was home while my mom was at work.  She became a mom to my brother and I, and would watch us after school until my mom would get home from work.  So I’m not one of those people who speaks out against something and has never experienced the pain associated with it.

Here’s the thing, God thought of EVERYTHING.  He knew exactly what would happen to us, he knew we would be faced with things like this, he knew we would be depressed and gave us herbs like St John’s Wart to help us.  He knew we would be faced with cancer and gave us things to ward off the cancer.  He gave us fresh fruits and vegetables, he created them to have the nutrients we needed.  Ultimately, God created us as vegetarians! Genesis 1:29-30 “And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.”  It wasn’t until sin came into the picture that we were told we can eat meat now.  Sin brought death, things then died where before they didn’t, so now we can eat meat.

I’ve tried the vegetarian thing, I was very bad at it.  The only reason that statement is true is because I didn’t eat well, I filled up on carbs and sweets rather than healthy foods.  In the movie A Beautiful Truth, they talk about the mercury in our mouth from silver dental fillings.  I am proud to say I just had my last silver filling removed!  They also talk about coffee enema.  I wrote down the protocol, and Hubby was determined to try it.  Here’s how it goes: 1 Quart of water to 3 Tbsp ORGANIC coffee.  Simmer on the stove for 15 minutes, strain off the coffee through a coffee filter and allow to cool.  Once cool add enough water back to make it a quart.   Fill an enema bag with half the coffee (or a pint).  Enema bags can be purchased at Walgreens, Rite Aid etc.  The fun part is next!  Then you put that said half coffee (a pint) in your bum.  Yep real fun stuff here.  Once it’s inside you lay on your right side with your knees drawn up, sort of like a chair but laying on your right side.  We fill up a tub of warm water, it gets cold laying in the bathroom, so we lay in a tub of water.  You lay like that for 12-15 minutes, then expel, which is another “fun” part.

Hubby was the first one to try it.  He did it and raved about it.  But we made some mistakes, let me share them with you as uncomfortable as they were, they might help you not make the same mistakes.  The biggest mistake was we put the entire quart of coffee in, rather than splitting it half and half.  Hubby did just fine.  Me on the other hand… it was BAD NEWS JOE BROWN!  I’m smaller than Hubby, so what ended up happening was I think it pushed up too far and into my stomach.  Gross.  When it was time to “expel” not much came out… then the stomach ache started and then I was up all night because of all the coffee.  It was HORRIBLE!! I have no idea how he talked me into doing it again, but he did.  The next time we split the quart.  It was easier but the process is NEVER fun.  It is uncomfortable, you cramp, you feel like you can’t hold it in, these are all very normal.  Even the expelling process is not fun, although it feels great to let it all go, what comes out of you might be surprising, and how much will also be a surprise.

For complete disclosure and honesty, I must say I’ve probably done this about 5 times.  Hubby is much more proactive about it than I am.  In fact he just did one last night and reminded me that I need to do another one.  So I promised I would do it Saturday morning, what a way to wake up!  But it is for health reasons, not for fun.  So what’s the point? Well coffee stimulates the bile flow, bile holds a lot of toxins, so when you cause it to flow it will expel the toxins with the coffee.  It also increases circulation, as well as increased bowel movements, and coffee contains antioxidants. Hubby says he feels less bloated and his pants fit better after he does it.

Charlotte Gerson, Dr. Max Gerson’s daughter, is still alive and they have a center in Mexico where people can go and seek treatment.  She also does a lot of talks and interviews.  I just listened to an amazing one, listen to it here.  Any thoughts on trying this yourself?  🙂

Since starting to juice, my uncontrollable sugar addiction, has drastically changed.  There is zero pull toward sugar, where before I was so addicted I had to have it daily.  I couldn’t pass by something sugary and sweet without HAVING to have a bite.  Juicing changed all of that for me, Praise God!  I’ve been a sugar addict my whole life.  I remember eating strawberries on a hot summers day with my friend growing up, we would dip the strawberries in sugar.   Don’t forget the pounds and pounds of sugar that would be consumed by drinking kool-aid, my drink of choice as a kid.  Pretty much everything processed has some kind of sugar in it, I had my morning coffee with sugar in it, so I think it is safe to say that I had sugar for every meal.  In Hungry for Change they estimated that we (meaning Americans, or those eating an “American” diet) eat 26 teaspoons of sugar…get this… a day!

In high school I started having some issues in the female department.  I will spare you the details, but the doctors one suggestion to me at the time was to stop eating sugar.  I was probably 16 at the time and thought that it was the most funny suggestion ever, I mean…WHO quits sugar!?  Not to mention, how does one quit something that is almost everything good?  I do have to wish I could go back to my 16-year-old shelf, shake her profusely and get cracking on quitting sugar.  Not only do I have PCOS, which causes hormonal imbalance as well as insulin resistance (um…pre diabetes anyone?) but a sugar addict on top of it? In Hungry for Change, Kris Carr (who got cancer at 31 and starred in the movie Crazy Sexy Cancer) talked about how she was so addicted to sugar that she would binge then throw her food away, then she would pick through the garbage and the only way for her to not eat the food she threw in the trash was to spray it with windex!  Talk about addictive!

So why is sugar SO bad for us?  Well I just found 146 reasons, you can view them here.  I picked out a few of my “favorites”

  • Sugar can suppress the immune system.
  • Sugar upsets the mineral relationships in the body.
  • Sugar interferes with absorption of calcium and magnesium.
  • Sugar can weaken eyesight.
  • Sugar can produce an acidic digestive tract.
  • Sugar can cause appendicitis. (this is a shock… and I had my appendix out in 2006!)
  • Sugar can cause varicose veins. (very-close-veins)
  • Sugar can increase cholesterol.
  • Sugar can make the tendons more brittle.
  • Sugar can cause depression.
  • Sugar feeds cancer

I have restricted my sugar intake since the juicing started.  I have attempted to quit sugar before, right after my 30th birthday actually.  Initially I had a whole bunch of addictive signs, craving, head aches etc.  I still craved it though.  A teeccino and stevia with milk did help me, but I still had cravings, until I started juicing.  Now any time I think I want something sweet, some pineapple and strawberries cut up in a bowl is perfect to satisfy.

60 minutes just did a segment, Is Sugar Toxic?  It’s nice to see mainstream media looking into real problems with our health, not be pushers for the drug companies.  I do disagree with some things in the segment, like evolution (I was created, I didn’t “evolve”), and the fact that high fructose corn syrup is “just as bad” as sugar.  I personally think it’s worse… like the said in Hungry for Change HFCS is from corn but it’s so concentrated it’s like running jet fuel, rather than gas, through your car.  Bottom line, cut the sugar out.  Stevia is an amazing alternative.  I used it just this weekend to bake some cookies, along with a banana they were sweet and wonderful.  I am also an advocate for raw local honey.  Sugar has it’s place in my kitchen, it feeds my kefir water.  I can honestly say I think that should be the end of the relationship with sugar.  We as a people should not be so addicted to it, it’s not right and not healthy.  Is sugar toxic? Uh…yeah.  Quit now while you’re ahead 🙂
